CREW

THE CREW FOR YOU …

NAMIB FILM boasts a network of freelance crew who has worked on many international productions of all scales. With Namibians you’re getting experts who know the local conditions such as terrain, people and weather … essential for the smooth running of any production.

The added bonus of using Namibian crew is that they are on the ground immediately, and the saving in airfares and work permits is another perk.

Besides drawing on our network of highly experienced freelance crew, Namib Film enjoys the constant expertise of select permanent staff members.

Guy Nockels, the managing director of Namib Film, boasts 33 years of experience in the international film industry. Guy started his film career in the sound department in the early 70s and moved to London in 1976 where he spent a number of years at the BBC film unit, before returning to South Africa. During the following years he moved away from the sound department and into producing and directing in the television industry. Guy’s love for filmmaking drew him to Assistant Directing on feature films, which he did as a 1st AD for many years, working extensively in Southern Africa and Europe, before moving to Namibia and setting up Namib Film.

To remain at the pulse of the dynamic European film industry, Alexander Honisch has joined the Namib Film team as a producer based directly in Germany. With more than 20 years of experience in the German film industry, primarily as a Director of Photography, Alexander is focusing his skills on the central European market, thereby further strengthening the link between the African and European film industries.

Paul van der Ploeg, Namib Film’s location manager and location scout, travelled extensively throughout Namibia as a tour guide for some 15 years, before joining the Namib Film team on a permanent basis. Paul’s intimate knowledge of our vast country, combined with his experience and understanding of the intricacies of the film industry, ensure that your production will be visually spectacular and logistically supreme.

Furthermore, local crew rates, Namibian and South African,
are competitively lower than their counterparts in the UK or USA.
This means that the visiting Producer gets more for his Dollar.

“ Now, anybody that has ever lugged a film camera around will tell you that it is hard enough to do it inside a four walled studio, never mind the middle of the Namib Desert, yet, thanks to the amazing talent of Guy and his team at Namib Film, they pulled it off without a hitch and, literally, captured the impossible”.
